W:I do it all the time.

M:Really?Tell me more. What do you actually do? Help old people? Teach homeless children?

W:Neither.I usually help clean up the parks.Sometimes I work in an animal hospital.

M:Don’t you find it a little boring?

W:No.In fact,I like doing cleaning.

M:How much time do you spend on it? I know some people do it one or two days a week.

M:I guess you are right.Look how much litter there is on the ground.

W:Why don’t we pick it up right now? Tomorrow is April 22nd.That’s the Earth Day,and this is the perfect clean-up activity.

I can still remember my elementary school teachers very well.Sue was my kindergarten teacher, and she was very kind. That year was all about games, songs, and getting along with everyone else.Susan was my first-grade teacher. She was my first “real” teacher. We had real lessons with her.I often got into trouble in her class, but I also learned a lot.In the second grade, I had Rhonda as my teacher, who was beautiful. We all liked her.She was our friend more than our teacher.Laura was my third-grade teacher, and she was humorous! Her class was always full of fun.But my fourth-grade teacher changed my life. Her name was Shirley Richardson. She was a six-foot-tall African-American woman.Everyone was scared of her, but she was very smart.I stopped getting into trouble, and I started to take school seriously.By the time I got to Tony’s fifth-grade class, I was the top student. Thanks to Ms.Richardson.

You don’t have to be a superhero to help improve the environment.Even small actions can make a difference.Amariyanna “Mari” Copeny has another nickname:Little Miss Flint.Mari,10,lives in Flint,Michigan.Since 2016,Flint’s residents have been without clean drinking water. That is when the water gets polluted with lead.As a result of lead poisoning, children in Flint have suffered from health problems.

“We knew that the water wasn’t good,” Mari said.“But we had no idea that how bad it was and that it was making us sick.” Mari has worked hard to spread awareness of Flint’s water crisis by organizing activities.

Never let anyone tell you that your voice doesn’t matter,” Mari says.“It may not always be easy, but you will find adults who support you and want to hear what you have to say.”
