M:Mom, I’m home!

W:Dan, why are you so late today? I’ve been worried about you.

M:I told you I would watch a match at 6:00 pm, which would last for 1.5 hours. Remember?

W:Oh, right. What about your father? It’s eight o’clock now. Was he caught by the traffic jam?

M:Don’t worry. I called him in the afternoon and he told me that he had an important meeting. Mom, I’m so hungry. Is the dinner ready yet?

W:Yeah, go and wash your hands.

听第7段材料,回答第8、9题。

Text 7

W:I’m taking a spinning class at the gym on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

M:What’s a spinning class? Is that where you just run around in circles like kids or something?

W:No, silly. Everyone in the class rides exercise bicycles together while the instructor gives us directions. There are also different kinds of music that we ride along to.

M:Oh, I see. Well, I think riding a bike outside would be much more fun, and it would probably be better exercise, too.

听第8段材料,回答第10至12题。

Text 8

W:Do you have any other hobby besides stamp collecting?

M:Yes, fishing. I go fishing twice a week.

W:That’s very popular, too. Every time I pass the lake, I see some people sitting there with fishing rods in their hands, but I’ve never seen anyone catch anything.

M:Maybe it’s because you lack patience.

W:Maybe you’re right. I went fishing once. I sat still about four hours and got nothing. I broke my rod and decided not to fish any more.

M:Oh, you didn’t have to do that. Look at that man. There must be a huge fish on the end of the line. Let’s go and have a look.

W:OK. Wow, what a big fish!

M:So it is interesting to fish with a rod sitting at the lake. What do you often do in your spare time?

W:Oh, nothing special. I read, watch TV and go to the movies.

M:Don’t you have any hobbies, like stamp collecting or things like that?

W:No, I don’t have any hobbies like that.

听第9段材料,回答第13至16题。

Text 9

W:Karl, you live in a lonely village, don’t you?

M:Not as much as it used to be. My village is on the east coast of Greenland. Boats from Denmark bring us supplies. And air transport is now the most important method to and from Greenland, and within the island too, as we hardly have any roads.

W:Maybe you’ve got the Internet to help you keep in touch?

M:We certainly have. Greenland has moved into the digital age and many people in my village go to an office. They sit at a desk using a computer to do business worldwide. In the old days, people’s work meant fishing in a boat. The modern lifestyle is easier but a lot less exciting.

W:Mmm, you sound a little regretful.

M:In some ways, maybe I am. Our grandparents had amazing skills. They used every piece of skin, fat and bone to make all the things they needed, like clothes, fuel and tools by hand. My grandpa used to hunt with a gun. He often told me the tales of danger and excitement. They attracted me more than the Internet games.

听第10段材料,回答第17至20题。

Text 10

Jimmy always went to the second-hand shop. He didn’t look for anything in particular. He liked to go there just to have a look. A big sign on the front door said OPEN. The shop was closed on Sunday and Monday. The rest of a week, it opened at 10 am and closed at 2 pm. Two women worked inside. They rang up sales and put the items into plastic bags for the customers to carry. At the back of their shop was a big room where another lady worked. She classified the new donations and put price tags on them. At the end of each day, she would bring the new donations out to the main part of the shop. Everyone who worked at the shop was a volunteer. The only“payment”they received was that they had the opportunity to see and buy things in the shop before the customers did. Every time Jimmy entered, the ladies at the shop would say hello to him passionately. He would also smile and say hello. The warmth in Jimmy’s heart was exactly the reason why he enjoyed visiting the shop.
