W:This is part of the story A Tale of Two Cities. Alexander Manette, a famous doctor of Paris, suddenly disappeared. No one knew where he was and no one heard from him for many years. What happened was that he had been put into the Bastille, Paris’s most important prison. He stayed there for eighteen years. As he had been kept in prison alone so long, he was mentally disturbed. When he was set free in 1775, he could hardly remember anything except the number by which he had been called in prison, which was 105 “North Tower”.In 1789,the French Revolution broke out. During the revolution, the people in Paris destroyed the Bastille, where they found a small hole in the chimney in Room 105. In the hole, there was a piece of paper with words on it. It was the writing of Dr.Manette. He wrote down what happened to him eighteen years ago. It was on a December night that he was put into prison.
