W:You can go back in 4 days, but you’ll need to avoid sports for a month.

M:So did I.Hamlet is always classical.

W:Exactly.Let’s stop at the supermarket for a minute.I need some medicine.

M:OK.I’ve got to buy some cigarettes, anyway.

W:Really? Why can’t you set a good example for Tommy and Johnny? They are big boys.I never like boys smoking.I can’t bear two more smokers in the house.

听第7段材料,回答第8至10题。

【Text 7】

M:Today our topic is Animals in Danger. We have Jenny Black from WWF with us.Jenny, what do you think of the way people treat animals?

W:We’re often cruel to animals. In fact, there are very few animals on our earth which are not in danger.

M:Really?Are things that bad?

W:Yes.We all know how polluted our earth has become.Well,if pollution is affecting our air and water, then all the animals are suffering.Cutting down trees to grow crops or build houses is another major reason.

M:So what do you think we can do about it?

W:One important thing we can all do is to be more careful about the products we buy when we are abroad. Many countries are still selling skin coats and that kind of thing. If we stop buying these products, they will have to stop killing animals to produce them.

M:That’s right.Well,is there anything we can do in our own neighborhoods?

W:First,we can try to clean up our environment. Then if you notice anyone breaking environmental laws you must report them to the police. Also,if there is a zoo in your area, you can make sure that the animals are being well looked after.

M:Yeah. We should try to recreate the natural conditions as much as possible in the zoos.

W:That’s true.

听第8段材料,回答第11至13题。

【Text 8】

M:Well, here we are. This is the hall.As you can see, there is a big mirror on the wall and a telephone over there.

W:Is the telephone working?

M:Oh yes.You only pay for the calls you make. Now let’s go through this door and turn left. This is the living room. There’s a television and,……

W:Look!What a big sofa!

M:Oh,yes. It’s new, too. And if you go through that door in front of you, that’s the dining room with a nice big table and six chairs. And it has two windows so there’s lots of light. On the left is the bathroom. It’s a bit small. But the shower and the toilet are both new.And opposite the bathroom, just here,we have the kitchen.

W:Oh,yes! This is lovely.

听第9段材料,回答第14至16题。

【Text 9】

W:Excuse me.I need to get to Cambridge today.

M:Would you like to go by train or by bus?

W:I am not sure.Which one is better?

M:The bus is cheaper but also slower. It will take about two and a half hours.

W:And how long does the train take?

M:If you take the fast train,it will take about 50 minutes.

W:Where do I catch the train?

M:The trains for Cambridge leave from King’s Cross Railway Station. They run approximately every half-hour.Most trains to Cambridge go from Platform 9.

W:How do I get to King’s Cross Railway Station?

M:The best way is to take an underground tube train directly to King’s Cross Railway Station. The underground station is just round the corner from here.

W:Can you show me on the map?

M:It is very easy.Just turn right when you leave and then turn right again at the first crossroads. The entrance to the underground station is about 50 meters further on.

W:Thank you very much.

M:You’re welcome.

【Text 10】

W:Good morning, everyone. This is Helen Green with What to Do Today on the air. It’s quite a warm and sunny Saturday. Now,if you’ve got nothing to do today, why not go to East Mountain in the city and get digging? That’s the message from Sussex Middle School. It is organizing a tree-planting activity in East Mountain.

Sussex Middle School is a member of the organization of Helping Blind Children. It is raising money for poor blind children in Asia by planting trees.A famous computer company agrees to give $30 for each tree to be planted in the city.Sussex Middle School is planning to plant 1,500 trees this weekend.Students and their parents are hoping to plant a half today. They are looking for volunteers to come along and help.Tree-planting experience is not necessary as there will be experts to give directions.Thick gloves will be provided to protect your hands when you are doing the digging. There are also hats provided. And please do bring basic tools with you to dig holes and water trees.Everyone is welcome to come along anytime from 10 a.m.to 4 p.m.this weekend. So it could be really a nice day out for all the families.

This is What to Do Today. Thanks for your listening.Enjoy your day.
