M:How long have you been playing that game?It seems like hours.

W:I just got it and can’t put it down. You know how much I love fitting pieces together. This game has fruit and animals that you have to match up.

M:At least it’s not another gun or piano game. You’d better not miss your job interview, though. That would make a poor impression on the hiring manager. When are you going to get ready?

W:I forgot to tell you that it was changed to tomorrow.I have plenty of time to prepare.I only have to go to see the dentist and talk with my professor later today.

M:Fine then, but don’t miss the dentist because of that game.

听第7段材料,回答第8至10题。

W:Look at that. Why would anyone throw a chair into the sea?Or did it just fall off a ship by accident?

M:All sorts of things get washed up here.

W:I suppose it’s not as bad as all the oil and plastics that get thrown in the sea,but rubbish like that destroys the environment, doesn’t it?

M:Yes,a few years ago you would never see anything like that on the sand.People don’t care anymore. They wouldn’t throw rubbish in their own garden, would they?

W:It will soon be evening. We can’t tidy up in the dark.Today is Friday.Shall we spend tomorrow morning picking up some of the rubbish?

M:It would be best to come back at about 1:00 pm.

W:OK,we’ll do that tomorrow.

听第8段材料,回答第11至13题。

Text 8

W:Good afternoon,Customer Service.How can I help you?

M:Hi.I mailed some checks to you last week.I just want to see if the money is in my account.

W:I’d be happy to help you with that, sir.First, who am I speaking with?

M:My name is George Alston.

W:OK,Mr.Alston.I’ll just need to ask you a few questions. Can you tell me your address, please?

M:Yeah,2905 Berkshire Road.

W:I’m sorry, but that’s not the address we have on file.

M:Oh,I do apologize.I moved last week, and I just forgot to update my information. The old address was 38 Parkview Drive.

W:Yes,that’s the one we have. And can I have your date of birth?

M:January 9th,1948.

W:Very good. One last question. Can you please tell me the last four digits of your Social Security Number?

M:9820.

W:Thank you,Mr.Alston.I’m going to place you on hold while I check on your deposit.

听第9段材料,回答第14至17题。

Text 9

W:I should start painting again. It’s such a relaxing thing to do.My schedule is so crazy.I hardly have time for myself these days.I used to love to paint.I’ve almost forgotten what it’s like to have the time and space to be quiet.

M:If you really want to do that, just pick a time and it’s yours. You won’t have to worry about a thing… I’ll take the kids to the park or to the movies and leave you alone for the evening. If you prefer to paint in the morning,I can get up earlier and make breakfast for everyone, get the kids off to school, and…

W:Now you’re worrying me.If you take the children to the park, you’ll probably let them do dangerous things. If you take them to the movies, you’ll probably let them eat too much candy and popcorn. And I don’t even want to imagine what might happen if you try to make breakfast…

M:That really hurts.You don’t trust me?

W:Well,it isn’t that I don’t trust you,Mark.I just think you do some things better than me,and making breakfast is just a thing that I do better than you!

Good afternoon!Today’s talk is about something that would make many school-age children happy. What’s all the excitement about?A new study conducted by the Children’s Research Center has found that if children start school at a later time, their daytime thinking may improve.Researchers have found that delaying school start times by only 25 minutes leads to an average of 29 additional minutes of sleep for students. There’s no question that more sleep is a good thing, but just how does more sleep result in better thinking during the day?According to the study, students who were more rested consumed healthier food and drinks and reported feeling happier overall. These feelings led to better academic performance.Julie, the co-director of the Children’s Sleep Disorders Clinic, was pleased with the research findings. In her opinion, educators should more closely match school schedules with teenagers’ sleep needs. She thinks students will be more focused, happier, better prepared to learn, and not dependent on soda and energy drinks just to stay awake in class.
