M:Wow.That’s interesting.
W:As soon as I went to preliminary school, she got me some piano lessons. Then later I met a really good music teacher at secondary school who introduced me to the guitar, and I knew immediately it was the right instrument for me.So I stopped my piano lessons. But I’ve never regretted stopping them, although it wasn’t until I got to college that I realized how much I’d already learned!

M:Hey!Where are you going?
W:I’m heading for the Homestay Programme office.I’m going to make an application. Come with me.
M:Oh really?What’s the programme about?
W:It’s designed for international students like us,to promote friendship and language learning.Local people open their homes to foreign students.
M:You mean we live in their homes?
W:Exactly.
M:What kind of family does the programme choose for the students?
W:All kinds of families, single people or couples, with or without children.
M:Are they Canadians?
W:Yes,of course. This programme chooses local people who are open and friendly.
M:It sounds good. But what if there are misunderstandings between us and the hosts?
W:Cultural and language differences sometimes cause problems. The programme office promises to help.
M:Mm…sounds good.I’d like to join you.Let’s go.
听第8段材料,回答第11至13题。

M:Excuse me,Miss.I can’t let you in.This is a high security building, and nobody is allowed in without an ID card.
W:I know, but I lost my purse. My ID card is in it.
M:I’m sorry.
W:But I really need to go in to get an important file inside the building. This is very urgent!I need the file to attend an important meeting elsewhere.
M:Well,at least show me your passport. Then I could arrange for you to make a new ID card.
W:But I can’t.The passport is in my purse,too.
M:Then I can’t help you.
W:Look! My friend will be picking me up in a minute. How about you letting her in with her ID card and letting me go in with her?
M:That’ll be OK.
听第9段材料,回答第14至17题。
Text 9
W:Hi,Harry!What’s that book you’re reading?Heroes?
M:Hi,Anna.Yes,it’s about the kind of people that teenagers think of as heroes.I mean, lots of people think a hero nowadays has to be like someone in films—like Superman. But I think there are plenty of ordinary people going around doing great things.
W:Mmm,I guess so.Sometimes it’s about what they encourage you to do,isn’t it?Those people can be heroes too.
M:That’s a bit like my grandfather, then. He’s done all sorts of things to help other people since he sold his business and gave up work. He’s definitely my hero. But those heroes never get to be famous,do they? It’s not fair.
W:That’s true.He sounds like one of those quiet heroes you get in storybooks…
M:Yeah,he is.And a storybook is one place where you do need proper heroes.
W:I’m with you there.I read loads of them and I definitely wouldn’t get to the end if they didn’t have heroes in them.Too boring.
M:Great writers can really help you to love reading too.I mean,I wasn’t fond of reading until I found my favourite.Still,it’s unusual to find writers that can do that—for me,anyway.
W:That’s right.
听第10段材料,回答第18至20题。
Text 10
W:Is everybody here?Good. Now listen to me carefully.I hope you’ve all had a good day today. It’s very unusual to have so much snow here at this time of year. Some of you were asking about tomorrow.Well,we’re going unless the snow gets much heavier during the night.I’ll see you back here at six o’clock.Set your alarms for 5:30 and wash up yourselves in thirty minutes.Be here tomorrow morning with everything you need. You’ve all got a list—you need a whistle in case you get separated from the rest of the group, warm clothes and gloves.A good pair of boots is important for you because we will spend at least six hours on walking.Don’t forget the maps I gave you.I suggest you not bring cameras and video cameras. You all look rather worried. There’s really no need.As long as we all stay together,we’ll have a great time.OK,it’s time to have dinner now,so if anyone has any question, ask me on the way to the dining hall.Let’s go.
