W:Will it be a long wait?If so,I’d rather just go to McDonald’s across the street.
M:Let’s see…It’s 7:30 now.We can seat your party of five at a quarter to 8.
W:OK.There’s an old concert hall next door we can visit while we wait.I’ll be expecting your call shortly.

W:Hello? My name’s Jenny.I’m calling in regard to the ad I saw in the newspaper this morning for the receptionist position.
M:Ah,yes indeed.Do you have any experience working in the front of a busy office?
W:I have some. When I was 17,I answered phone calls and made scheduled appointments for my dad’s landscaping company.
M:Oh,how big is your dad’s company?
W:Well,it just includes him,my mom,and my big brother. They cut grass for people in our town who are too busy to cut it themselves.
M:I see.Can you commit to coming into our office Monday to Friday,9 to 5?
W:Yes.I’m taking night classes at community college, but my first class doesn’t start until 6 p.m.
M:Why don’t you come by our office in Grand Junction on Friday and we can talk face-to-face?We can do it before your first class,say,4 p.m.
W:OK.Thanks for the opportunity!

W:What a beautiful house,Tom!
M:Thanks Lisa.Mary and I call it home.
W:It’s very close to Mary’s work,isn’t it?
M:Yeah,it is.She always walks to work.I offer a ride every day,but she insists on walking.
W:I usually take a bus,but it takes half an hour.
M:That is a long time.Anyway,have a piece of pie.
W:Mmm…This is delicious,Tom!You always have a talent for baking, even when we were kids.
M:Mom always had me help her.I remember you always ran away when you saw the mixing bowls come out.Now I usually bake something every weekend.I just like being in the kitchen.
W:Well, this pie is just amazing, better than any bakery.
M:Oh come on,it’s not too difficult,really.
W:I never cook anything. My husband,Jim,usually makes dinner every night and breakfast every morning.
M:Do you go out to eat often?
W:Oh yeah.Sometimes he doesn’t have time to cook,so we’ll go out and find somewhere to eat.
M:There are quite a few great restaurants in this neighborhood. You can try something today.
听第10段材料,回答第18至20题。
Text 10
M:I think I’m pretty sensitive to the weather, more so than other people I know.I love summer the most. The days are so long and the sun shines so brightly.Fall is great, too.I enjoy the colorful leaves and the mild, cool weather.Spring’s also nice. But winter…Oh I just can’t stand winter. It’s just so dark and cold all the time here.I go to work downtown in the dark.I come home in the dark. And the cold…I know winter is supposed to be cold, but in the last few years,it’s just been freezing.Winter comes every year, and every year,no one’s prepared for it.The first time it snows, everything shuts down. The trains stop, the planes stop, and no one can leave their house because no one comes to move the snow off these smaller country roads. If you try and drive on the roads, you will get stuck in the snow.If you try and walk outside, you will slip and fall on the ice.I think other people are affected by winter too.No one smiles that much.No one talks that much.I think I’ll move somewhere warmer down south.
